Del Grande has had a slightly less turbulent year than his first. He’s
finally figured out how to work within the system rather than simply rail
against it. He still likes to hurl accusations of corruption around a little
too freely. But his support of the Scarborough subway and a decision to
oppose York Region’s big pipe project earn him points, as does his
determined campaign to rid his ward of grow houses. His method on the latter
issues, though, including his startling claim that they were somehow related
to the exodus of white residents from the area gave us pause. He has the
ability to be an effective critic, especially on financial matters, but has
yet to fully hit his stride.

In my two years at Council I have been hardnosed to bring a sense of
balance and reason to City spending and practices. My community has
benefited by my taking a hands-on approach to dealing with improving
services and response times from the City.
I find it interesting that many have commented that they have not seen in
me what the “typical” expectation from a councillor is. “Refreshing” and
“unusual” are the words chosen. My response is simply that I am doing my job
and my constituents have confirmed this through their commentaries to me.
